The mayor of Dubrovnik, Andro Vlahušić, held a meeting yesterday with the coordinators of traffic in the city, Dubrovnik Tourist Board and the public cleaning company. The task of this working group was to prepare for this year’s cruise ship business which is expected to be considerably busier than 2012. In May there will be over 47,000 more cruise ships guests than in 2012 and from May until October there will be around 160,000 more guests than in the same period in 2012. In just six months, from May to October, 824,833 cruise ship passengers will arrive in the city which is an increase of 30 percent over last year.
As with any other historical Mediterranean city this increase represents a challenge in terms of the city’s infrastructure and utilities. The mayor gave the order for the road works in the city to be finished ahead of schedule so as to as ease traffic congestion.
