The third season of the HBO hit series “Game of Thrones” will be filmed on location in Dubrovnik and today the mayor of Dubrovnik, Andro Vlahušić, met with representatives of the production company.
It was agreed at the meeting that the third series will be filmed in the old city of Dubrovnik as well as a new destination the Arboretum in Tresteno. It appears that once again the old city of Dubrovnik will act as King’s Landing in the series however it is not yet known which role the historic arboretum will play. Tresteno is located around 30 kilometres north of Dubrovnik and was founded in the 15th century making it one of the oldest arboretums in Europe.
Representatives of the Croatian production company, Embassy Films, discussed with the mayor future co-operation with the city and both sides reported that they were pleased with last year’s arrangements. The City of Dubrovnik once again offered their full support to HBO and were keen to point out the successful co-operation from 2011.
According to sources it is believed that filming will start much later than last year, probably in late September and early October and will last a little shorter than for the second series.
