A new exhibition opened last night in the Marin Držić Museum in the heart of the Old City of Dubrovnik, “The World of William Shakespeare.” The exhibition is a joint project between the Dubrovnik Shakespeare Festival and the Marin Držić Museum and contains original books, manuscripts and artifacts from the 16th and 17th centuries. The lives and works of Shakespeare and Držić have much in common so it is fitting that Shakespeare is presented inside Držić’s former home. Highlights include a 17th century Ben Jonson Folio that lists William Shakespeare as one of the actors in Jonson’s plays. Also, a 17th century vellum manuscript with the Great Seal of Queen Elizabeth I attached.
The Dubrovnik Shakespeare Festival will premiere its inaugural festival on the 27th of April until the 6th of May 2012. And all of the pieces in the exhibition are from the personal collection of the artistic director of the festival Michael Lederer.
