The Croatian President, Ivo Josipović, and the mayor of Dubrovnik, Andro Vlahušić, met yesterday with the artistic director of the Dubrovnik Shakespeare Festival, Michael Lederer. President Josipović gave his full support to the initiative which will enlarge the cultural life in Dubrovnik and wished every success to the organizers.
The first Dubrovnik Shakespeare Festival will take place in April/May 2012 and numerous performances of drama, art and music will entertain visitors. The performances, including Midsummer Nights Dream and The Miser by Marin Držić, will also have simultaneous translations so giving an appeal to a much wider audience. Lederer also informed President Josipović of the upcoming exhibition, sponsorded by Dubrovnik Shakespeare Festival, to be held in the Marin Držić museum in the Old City, opening on Thursday the 14th of July entitled “The World of William Shakespeare”, the exhibition will last for two months. The exhibition will contain original books and manuscripts dating back to the time of Shakespeare.
