Following the example of tourist destinations in the world the city of Dubrovnik has released a “City Card”. Other major tourist destinations on the Mediterranean such as Venice and Barcelona have had a city card for a few years and with the launch of this card Dubrovnik has added another interesting offer for guests to the city. With this new card tourists will receive various discounts throughout the city.
The Dubrovnik City Card went on sale last week and offers tourists to the city a host of options including discounts and free entry to sights in the city. The recently launched card is available for sale at the Dubrovnik Tourist Office in the Old City as well as the two other offices in Gruz and Lapad. There are also plans that in the future the city card will be on sale in hotels, airports and port in Dubrovnik. And according to the director of the tourist board, Mrs. Jelka Tepsić, sales in the first week are going very well. The one-day card costs 130 Kunas and the seven day card 220 Kuna. Holders of the card will receive free entrance to eight cultural institutions including the Dubrovnik City Walls, Marine and Natural History Museum, Home of Marin Držić, the Rector's Palace and the Museum Rupe.
Saves time and money
The daily card also offers guests 24 hour use of the public transport system in Dubrovnik whilst holders of the seven day card are allowed to use the buses twenty times for free. – The sale of the city tourist card has gone really well since the offer started, a lot of our guests have purchased it. For tourists to the city it is extremely practical because it saves both time and money when visiting the city sights and travelling around the city - said the manager of the Dubrovnik Tourist Office Stefica Curic-Lenert. She added that the entrance fee for visiting the Dubrovnik City Walls is 70 Kuna and the Rector’s Palace 40 Kuna so by purchasing the new city card you have almost paid for it by visiting only two sights. Last year the tourist card passed an experimental phase before implementation this year. ”As we planned the Dubrovnik City Card was released for sale in the middle of June. Now follows the expansion of the sales network and the expansion of the supply and modernization of the whole system in the technical sense of the content,” said project leader Tonči Daničić.
Positive feedback
The card has already received praise from tourists visiting the city with one Austrian tourist commenting “great, this is a positive step and a perfect idea.” And another tourist from the UK commented “the card, especially the seven day card, seems to make good monetary sense, just twenty bus tickets totals 200 Kunas.” It is also believed that in the future other private companies in and around the city will be involved with the card. There is the possibility that they will offer discounts in restaurants, cafés and souvenir shops for card holders. The recent figures from the Dubrovnik Tourist Board have seen an increase in the number of tourists staying in the city compared to last year, so it is to be expected that the card will continue selling well.
