The Dubrovnik City administration held a meeting with property owners of land on the slopes of the Srđ Mountain yesterday. The theme of the meeting was to discuss the project “Landscape Design and Planning of Srđ” and to hear the opinion of the land owners.  According to the mayor, Andro Vlahušić, the project for re-designing the southern slopes of Srđ was first planned two years ago. – The area of land that we are discussing is not anticipated as building land. We wish to create a quality project which will also include fire roads with hydrants – commented Vlahušić. One of the main features of the project is a walkway that will run parallel with the crest of the mountain and which will offer panoramic views of the city and surroundings. The project also includes designing the slopes of Srđ with trees, vineyards and flowers. – I am aware that this is not a project we can achieve overnight but it will also be a valuable addition to the city – concluded Vlahušić.

In my opinion there should be not more then only a few trees on south Srdj hill slopes, and not forest. Restoring vineyards and similar garden-like creations with Mediterranean plants seems to be better option. Some carob trees, fig trees, olive trees, morus trees and similar should also be planted sporadically (in order that new generations have chance to see some of those); however there should be no (or at least no new) pine trees of any kind. Existing pine trees just above Adriatic Road are not belonging to this part of world and are much more fire-dangerous then what would be above mentioned solution with Mediterranean plants and only some Mediterranean trees. And - in case of forest/bush fire - after fire recovery scenario would be much easier and faster with Mediterranean plants. And, probably the most important, Mediterranean plants and trees look much much better then pine trees with their ugly caterpillar nests.
And finally, why we do not take a better look at old Dubrovnik paintings with Srdj hill in the background; how many trees usually you can see there? Five, or ten, or twenty; but not many more. Do we again think we are more clever then those who were walking Stradun centuries ago?

yes i know ... it zig zags up the face of the mountain.
My point is that the City has these grand plans, but where is the cash? why dont they get interest parties to say that they will pay for it, why does it need to come out of the purse of the city's budget. Dont get me wrong I think the idea is fine, but they should be tranparent as to what it's other function is ....

A road that is being disguised as a "fire road", to access Srđ for the Golf Park. Why doesn't Frenkel et al. contribute to the cost of this???
