The third “Job Fair” was held yesterday at the University of Dubrovnik. The fair was opened by the deputy mayor Marija Vučković, and she pointed out that the right to work is one of the basic human rights, but also one of the most important issues when it comes to the further progress of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. “Progress is only possible by increasing employment in all occupations and through the education of younger generations. Our aim is to provide better conditions of employment in our region, one should bear in mind that the strategic determinants of development in this region are in tourism and agriculture and the development of small and medium enterprises and family businesses. Dubrovnik-Neretva County will continue to sustain these kinds of projects and focus special attention on the preservation of traditional crafts and occupations” concluded Vučković. Around thirty employers presented themselves to potential employees and during the day a lecture was given on “How to survive and prosper in recession,” and a workshop “Self-assessment of their own potential for employment.” The Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR) presented the government measures to help companies in difficulties. Whilst the local shipping company “Atlantska plovidba” added that there was a deficiency in the number of sailors. A similar situation exists with the police force and this year, for the first time, they presented job opportunities.
