In connection with the presentation of Croatia in Israel, Dubrovnik will independently present the city and its tourist attractions to Israeli tour operators and businessmen. This special event will be held in one of the most luxurious hotels in Tel Aviv. Yesterday the Mayor of Dubrovnik, Mr. Andro Vlahušić, met with the Mayor of Akko, Mr. Shimon Lancry. For some time the city of Dubrovnik has been trying to strengthen its ties to Israel and one way could be adding the city of Akko to the list of sister cities. The city of Akko is one of the oldest cities in the world.
In fact, one of the patrons of this Israeli town is a rich industrialist and businessman Michael Strauss, who advocates the strengthening of ties between Dubrovnik and Akko. Strauss is a big fan of Croatia, and the roots of his late wife came from, and also a lover of classical music. He has donated money for classical music projects in Akko as well as sponsoring his friend Julian Rachlin with his festival in Dubrovnik.
The timing of this presentation of Dubrovnik couldn’t have been better as Turkey, which is a popular destination for Israelis, is currently in political disagreements with Israel. Direct flights will start this year in May between Dubrovnik and Tel Aviv.
