Michael Heard, vice-president of the American film company 20th Century Fox, met with the mayor of Dubrovnik Andro Vlahušić this week to discuss plans for a project to film a blockbuster movie in the city.
“We plan to do something really special, we want to bring big movie names to Dubrovnik, we want to promote both Croatia and Dubrovnik, as well as improving the film industry. This is a very expensive project, one day of filming in Croatia costs around 250 thousand dollars” reported Mr. Heard.
Filming would take around thirty days to complete and is set to run from the 15th of March to the 20th of April 2010 and could involve up to 500 extras. The mayor expressed extraordinary interest in the partnership and said "Dubrovnik is not only a tourist destination, but a city of culture, spirit and tolerance".
The film will be directed by the famous American director Rob Cohen and he described the action movie as “The Magnificent Seven in the Middle Ages.” Early reports suggest that the title of the film would be Medieval and apart from Dubrovnik locations in Austria, Italy and Cyprus have been mentioned. As yet the cast has not been announced but Vin Diesel and Nicholas Cage are believed to be in the running.
